Energy generating units

Thermal – In a Thermal power station coal is used as fuel to produce electricity. The NTPC thermal plant at Badarpur is an example of one. Hydel – It is a clean source of energy. Electricity is generated by damming a river and using the force of the water fall to turn the turbines. eg. Bhakra Nangal Dam.
Atomic – This energy is derived from nuclear fuel. Radioactive elements are mined from the earth and electricity is generated through a process of nuclear reaction in atomic power stations. Oil Refineries – Crude oil is refined here to petrol, diesel, kerosene and other petroleum by-products. The Mathura Refinery, which is the nearest to Delhi is an example.
